tikkazndcurriez.in
It’s that season of the year we all like and dislike together, Like every season Monsoon has it’s pros and cons. I love ❤ Monsoon as it brings some lovely memories, It creates a beautiful environment with the greens, looks lovely when it drizzles,The atmosphere is so beautiful you feel like penning down some lines on the beauty of rain. The Serene atmosphere is breathe taking. The waterfalls it creates, the zig-zag mountain paths feel so unreal and makes you long for long rides 😀 All of us love to travel and see and behold the beauty this season creates,it’s nothing less than a small miracle.
But the ugly truth is that every coin has two sides. As much as Monsoon creates this miracle, it’s also true,it destroys the very thing it creates by pouring incessantly and flooding everything not to tell about the sickness it brings due to the increased humidity and moisture. It takes long to dry anything and the damp smell spoils the best of intentions. Plus the puddles on the roads,or a rash driver who drives past you with no regards.🤪😡🤷♀️🤦♀️
A little care and some precautions can go a long way to keep you safe, Here are some of the tips I follow as a home-maker and I believe these tips in self care and home care will help you too. 😊Health just doesn’t come through good food, it is also our surroundings and the place we stay which contributes in the same.
THE ENTRANCE:
FOYER AREA:

PROBLEM:
- When you enter your home you put your shoes or sandals in the shoe cabinet, Now having a closed shoes cabinet is in vogue, it looks chic and brings charm to your foyer area but when you put in your damp, wet shoes in,it produces a lot of problems for the shoe-cabinet the damp smell, mould and foul odor to name some, not to forget the spoilage of your wonderful shoe pair
- SOLUTION :
- If you have a balcony or a space give your shoes or sandals 👡 sometime to breathe by giving it some air.
- Clean it with a wet cloth to remove the dirt and mud.
- We have all got used to sanitizer, Buy and keep a big bottle of sanitizer and divide it into small spray bottles and keep it always within reach,USE it to spray on your favorite shoes or sandals, wipe with a dry cloth, now they are ready to go in.
- Ventilate the cupboard from time to time
- Keep a dehumidifier pouch in the cupboard to keep your shoe cabinet moisture free and you can add naphthaline balls to it to keep it smelling fresh.
- This will elongate the shelf life of your favorite pair and will also keep the mold at bay.
LIVING ROOM:

PROBLEM:
DAMP SMELL IN THE LIVING ROOM:
When we enter from the foyer area the first room to welcome us and the guests is our living room or sitting room, We will not feel welcome if it has humid feel or damp smell to it. So what should we do? Now especially as slowly and steadily the festive seasons will begin. It’s important that we take some small measures to keep dampness and insects at bay.
SOLUTION :
The solution is very simple 😊
- First and foremost, every morning open your windows for atleast an hour for ventilation, morning is a time when traffic and pollution is less,so it’s a good opportunity to have fresh air.
- Do not forget to dust and mop every nook and cranny as moisture will make it difficult to remove it later on if it becomes sticky.
- Light scented organic candles or Scented sticks or Dhoop sticks which bring freshness to the room,it also creates a calm zen like effect, which is good to begin your day.
- Always keep a dehumidifier in the room,it absorbs the extra moisture and keeps your Room smelling fresh.
- Add sheer or light curtains to get whatever light you can get into the room.Dark room will create and set a gloomy tone to the atmosphere.
- Before the monsoon season even begins, it’s a good idea to clean your wooden furniture with organic wood cleaner and to oil your wooden furniture to keep it safe from mold and damp.(If you haven’t done it already, now also is a good time to take that extra effort 😀)
KITCHEN:

PROBLEM:
DAMP IN THE KITCHEN:
Kitchen is the heart of the house 🏠 ❤ we will not be able to function well if it is not kept hygienic and functioning well .The recent trends in making the kitchen with open shelves and making it part of the sitting area, creating an open kitchen also means, that the kitchen needs to not only look clean but it should also be fungus and mold free and hygienic.
SOLUTION:
- Always have an organic cleaner at hand or you can make one at home itself. Always clean your kitchen platform with this solution before you begin your prep work.
- Clean your kitchen equipments with the homemade solution atleast once in fifteen days. Even commercial home cleaners are available for this purpose.
- Mostly wooden equipments need to be cleaned and oiled before Monsoon to keep them mold and damp free,if you haven’t done so yet,do it the first thing.
- Cupboards where you store your napkins, towels should be aired for atleast an hour every day, keep dehumidifier pouches in the cupboard to keep moisture at bay,add Naphthaline balls to keep your cupboard fresh.
- Follow the same tips with your pantry. Air it well, the place where you store your food needs good ventilation. Dry roast all the ingredients which have chances of getting contaminated quickly.
- Avoid getting any ingredients in excess because chances of them getting spoiled are more.Bring in small quantities so it gets consumed quickly avoiding wastage or spoilage.
- Clean the kitchen chimney thoroughly, remove the excess oil because in monsoon along with the humidity and damp, the area gets sticky and smelly. Good organic cleaning solutions are available in market or you can make one at home.
- Clean your refrigerator thoroughly atleast once in 15 days to avoid contamination of food due to the increased moisture level, Especially if the vegetables you store have a short shelf life. Keep baking soda in a box,it absorbs all unpleasant smell and keeps the refrigerator smelling fresh.
- Do not consume dairy or bakery products if they have been not stored well,Finish them between 2 days before the expiry date. In monsoon fungus and mold destroy dairy and bakery products quickly.
- Boil the napkins in mix of hot water, vinegar, baking soda and dish wash and dry them out in a shaded place, it removes oil stains, damp smell and keeps the napkins clean for further use.
BATHROOM:

PROBLEM:
- Bathrooms,Powder rooms are more susceptible to damp and mold because of the closed places and lesser area for ventilation. Especially in the cities it’s very difficult due to higher level of pollution.
SOLUTION :
- Always clean and air the washrooms ,dry the wet surfaces as quickly as possible.
- Keep dehumidifier pouches in places where you store your towels, hand towels or dirty linen for wash. It sucks away the extra moisture.
- Use good soap dispensers to avoid sticky surfaces.
- Always invest in good quality air freshener, it helps.
- When the surroundings are good, you automatically feel uplifted and geared up for the day.
- Last but not least add naphthaline balls to the basin area to keep insects at bay.
- If possible install an exhaust fan to remove the hot air from the washroom.
I hope such small precautions can go a long way in keeping us healthy and fine.
